KU’s Mason Finley third in discus at NCAAs

? Kansas University sophomore Mason Finley placed third in the discus at the NCAA track and field championships Wednesday with a mark of 197 feet, 4 inches.

Also, KU’s Johann Swanepoel earned fifth in the javelin (237-0), Jessica Maroszek eighth in the discus (173-11), Andrea Geubelle 21st in the long jump (19-8). Diamond Dixon qualified for the finals in the 400 by placing second in her heat in 51.64. Kyle Clemons placed 16th in his 400 semifinal heat in 46.11.

By finishing in the top eight, Finley, a native of Salida, Colo., earned first team All-America honors for the fourth time of his career.

KU’s men’s team is in third place overall after three events with 10 points. BYU and Washington have 17.5 and 11 points. KU’s women stand in 19th place with one point.
