Ex-Jayhawk Talib won’t stand trial until 2012

By J-W Staff Reports     Jul 1, 2011

Former Kansas University star cornerback Aqib Talib reportedly will not stand trial for a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon until 2012.

Police said they believe Talib, 25, and his mother, Okolo Talib, shot at his sister’s boyfriend on March 21 in Garland, Texas. The man was not injured.

Talib, currently a cornerback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has been out on a $25,000 bond since March 30.

Talib’s attorney, Frank Perez, told the St. Petersburg Times on Thursday that Talib had his trial scheduled for March 26, 2012, in Texas.

The former Jayhawk has 15 interceptions in three seasons in the NFL.
