Former Kansas University relief pitcher Paul Smyth was promoted in the Oakland Athletics’ organization to Double-A Midland, in time for the Rockhounds’ postseason series with Frisco, which began Friday.
Smyth, who is in his second year of pro baseball, spent the year in high-level Single-A with the Stockton Ports of the California League. Smyth was 3-6 with a 3.01 earned-run average and 28 saves in 58 relief appearances. He walked 24 and struck out 94 in 77 2/3 innings.
