Ames, Iowa ? With No. 6 Oklahoma up next, Iowa State has absolutely no time to catch its breath after a 41-point shellacking by Utah.
And that’s just one of the Cyclones’ concerns. There’s a good chance they’ll have to face the Sooners without their best running back, Alexander Robinson.
Robinson injured a foot in Saturday night’s 68-27 loss to No. 11 Utah and did not play in the second half. X-rays showed no bones were broken, but Robinson is wearing a boot to protect the foot and his availability for Saturday’s game in Norman is far from certain.
Coach Paul Rhoads said he probably won’t know if his senior co-captain can play until kickoff.
“At best, he’ll be limited if he is healthy and ready to play,” Rhoads said Monday.
If Robinson can’t go, either red-shirt freshman Jeff Woody or true freshman Shontrelle Johnson would start. Both have played a lot this season and have been productive at times. But Robinson, a senior, has a big edge in experience and is a better receiver and blocker.
Rhoads said the Cyclones would go with the same game plan regardless of personnel.
