Kansas University basketball coach Bill Self said Elijah Johnson, who has missed two games because of disciplinary reasons, likely will play Friday against North Texas.
“I see him being our backup point guard,” Self said, “and he’s not a true point. He’s a combo. We’ve got a lot of combos. Elijah’s a good player. He’s got to take better care of the ball, but he’s a good player.”
Self on Marcus Morris: Self reiterated Marcus Morris “is the best all-around player I’ve coached since I’ve been here, maybe ever. Taking into consideration all the intangibles, I haven’t been around anybody who can do more things.”
Morris said: “I’m happy coach said it. I didn’t know that. I thought Julian (Wright) was kind of a good all-around player. I’ll keep working to become better than I am now.”
Self on Josh Selby, who is still awaiting word from the NCAA on his eligibility: “We hope a decision comes down sooner rather than later. We have not been given a timetable, no specific time- line at all. It’s been more frustrating for him and his family than us. He’s handled it real well. We are seeing a young man grow up before our eyes.”
And more on the case … “I will say this, until a decision is rendered, of course you are nervous. I’m confident that it’ll be fair and he’ll be with us before too long and be a major contributor for us.”
Self on Jeff Withey, who has played sparingly in two games in battling back from his late September foot surgery: “He’s doing better. His foot is less sore. It was probably comforting to him to know the X-rays taken have come back, and he sees he is better and better all the time. I see no reason from this point forward he’s not 100 percent all the time.
