Des Moines, Iowa ? Kansas University sophomore Andrea Guebelle made it two-for-two in qualifying for the 2010 World Junior Championships as she claimed the triple jump title at the USA Junior National Track and Field Championships on Friday with a jump of 13.29 meters.
Geubelle will compete at the world juniors on July 19-25 in Moncton, Canada, in the long jump and the triple jump after taking second place in the long jump on Thursday.
Geubelle’s road to the triple jump title was not easy as she advanced to the finals after managing one successful mark in the prelims. She then took home the title by unleashing her winning jump on her sixth and final attempt.
“I really like jumping at this track” said Geubelle, who earned All-America honors in both the long jump and triple jump at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships. “I am excited to have won here, especially the way it played out. To be able to rise to the challenge on my last attempt and get the win is a great feeling.”
Kansas sophomore Mason Finley placed eighth in the men’s discus at the U.S. Senior National Championships. Finley’s top mark was 57.41 meters (188 feet, 4 inches). Finley, who earned All-America honors at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships with his second-place finish, will compete in the shot put Sunday.
