Finley second in discus

KU freshman Mason Finley recently won both discus and shot at last week's Big 12 outdoor meet. Finley was named Big 12 track outstanding male freshman of the year Wednesday.

EUGENE, ORE. ? Kansas University freshman Mason Finley placed second in the discus throw at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships on Wednesday with a toss of 58.35 meters (191 feet, 5 inches) at Hayward Field.

By finishing in the top eight, Finley earned All-America honors for the second time in his young career.

“It is nice to finish second, but obviously I wish I would have gotten first,” Finley said. “I could have gotten first if I would have done my best, but I still have three more years to do that.”

Scott hits field today

KU junior pole vaulter Jordan Scott will be competing today in the outdoor finals for the first time in his career.

Kansas University pole vaulter Jordan Scott will lead KU’s nationally ranked men’s and women’s track and field teams into competition at the NCAA Outdoor Championships today in Eugene, Ore.

He took an unusual path to get to the finals, however.

After a rough indoor season in which he failed to qualify for the indoor championships, Scott found a way to return the fun to his craft.

He trimmed his hair into a mohawk and found that he performed well with the new ‘do. He followed that up with a series of wild hairstyles and dye-jobs.

Scott will hit the track today with “a blue mohawk with intense designs on both sides.”
