Former Kansas University pitcher Paul Smyth has been named the Short-Season Reliever of the Year by Minor League Baseball, which handed out its awards earlier this month.

Smyth was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 35th round of last season’s amateur draft and spent time in Vancouver (Rookie League) and Kane County (Short-Season Single-A). The KU product did not allow an earned run during his first professional season, spanning 361/3 innings and 25 games between the two teams.
