Des Moines, Iowa ? Kansas University slipped past Drake, 2-1, in the opener, but suffered a 6-0 setback in the nightcap of a nonconference softball doubleheader on Wednesday.
In Game One, freshman pitcher Alex Jones limited Drake to just one hit, and five Jayhawks collected hits.
In Game Two, however, Kansas (20-33) had just two hits.
Drake moved to 31-19.
Omaha, Neb. ? Out of the opener early, Kansas University’s softball team won a thriller of a nightcap late.
After suffering an 8-0 setback to Creighton in Game One of a nonconference doubleheader on Thursday, the Jayhawks rallied — behind a two-run home run from Allie Clark in the top of the seventh — for a 6-5 victory in Game Two.
Trailing 5-4 in the seventh, Clark appeared to tie the game with what originally was ruled a double down the left-field line, but officials reversed the call — deeming it a foul — and called her back to the plate. Two pitches later, Clark connected on her sixth homer of the season to help KU move to 18-24. Creighton is 20-18.
