The future of a Kansas University football shuttle service that takes fans from downtown Lawrence to Memorial Stadium is up for discussion by the Lawrence City Commission on Tuesday.
Commissioners are being asked by staff members to consider charging for the service, which last year was provided for free to users.
But the service last season cost about $6,500 more to operate than the city expected. City staff members are asking commissioners to charge $1 or $2 per ride to offset some of the costs. Staff members said one option to keep the service visitor-friendly is to waive the fare for anyone who shows a Lawrence hotel room key or a receipt showing that a purchase was made downtown on game day.
In other business, commissioners will consider an east Lawrence rezoning request that would allow new duplexes to be built near the southeast corner of East 19th Street and Learnard Avenue.
The request is for about 2.8 acres of property currently zoned for single-family homes.
Commissioners meet at 6:35 p.m. today at City Hall.
