Former Kansas University tight end Derek Fine has signed a contract with the Buffalo Bills.
A fourth-round pick in April’s NFL Draft, Fine agreed to terms late last week, and the paperwork was finalized Wednesday.
The 6-foot-2 former Jayhawk displayed reliable hands during spring work, yet considers blocking his strong point.
In all likelihood Fine will see a lot of time on special teams.
“I like being versatile and playing different positions and on special teams,” Fine said. “I like playing football and so for me at my size I think it’s an advantage because I like to do it all.”
Bills special teams coordinator Bobby April thinks Fine will fit in nicely.
“I saw him on film so I know what he can do and he’s fantastic,” April said. “I think he’s a good tight end and he’s going to play tight end, but we put a lot of priority in him and investment in him because I think he’s going to be a knock down, drag out special-teamer.”
