Fayetteville, Ark. ? Kansas University junior Nickesha Anderson raced to the fastest 200 meters clocking in the world in 2008 at Saturday’s Tyson Invitational track meet.
Anderson crossed in 22.94.
“I didn’t know I had run that fast until I got to the finish line,” said Anderson, a Hanover, Jamaica, native who passed Anastasiya Kapachinskaya’s time of 23.02 for the world lead.
“I love the 200. It is my race, and I take advantage of it.”
“This is one of the most awesome feelings of my coaching career, and I’ve worked with some talented athletes,” sprints coach Elisha Brewer said. “This was against some of the best competition in the world, and she will only continue to improve.”
KU senior Crystal Manning set the school record in the triple jump in an NCAA qualifying mark of 44-5.
Senior Libby Harmon attained an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 12-11 in the pole vault. Sophomore Lauren Bonds also provisionally qualified for the NCAAs after finishing the mile in 4:47.91 at the Husky Invitational in Seattle.
Jordan Scott won the men’s pole vault with a career-best and NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 18-2. Senior Egor Agafonov won the men’s weight throw in 69-11.
