Jayhawk in a Tarheel world

I grew up in Kansas … lived in Lawrence for several of them and love my Hawks! Seven years ago my husband was transferred to Fayetteville, North Carolina. In my second-grade classroom I proudly display my KU pennant. When our principal declares UNC or Duke Fridays at school I put on my KU shirt and proudly walk through the halls. This past week at school has been a difficult one. I wore my KU jacket every day. I got all KINDS of grief from parents. One told me to burn my beloved shirt. I retaliated by teaching about 80 kids (who were waiting after school to be picked up by their parents) the Rock Chalk Jayhawk Chant. I was then accused of heresy by our PE teacher. When KU won I was with another teacher from Texas who had the same prayer as I … a Hawk victory. We were not disappointed. Monday at school I will be gracious … and my Hawks victorious! I miss Kansas so much … but my Hawks help me to stay closer to home. On Monday I’m wearing my KU shirt to school … again! ROCK CHALK … JAYHAWK … K … U!
