Jayhawks win slugfest

? Erik Morrison and Justin Ellrich each delivered run-scoring hits in the top of the 11th inning as the Kansas University baseball team outlasted No. 8 Texas A&M on Saturday night for a 17-13 victory at Olsen Field.

KU (13-10 overall, 1-1 Big 12 Conference) clubbed 20 hits, and eight players had multi-hit games. Kyle Murphy, Robby Price and John Allman each collected three hits, and Murphy and Allman each drove in three runs.

Cleanup hitter Brock Simpson finished 2-for-5 with four RBIs, including a three-run home run in the Jayhawks’ six-run fourth inning.

Texas A&M (19-3, 1-1) enjoyed a big offensive night of its own, including an eight-run fifth inning.

KU’s Paul Smyth (1-0) earned the win in relief, limiting the Aggies to just one run in 42â3 innings.
