Baylor abandoned its man-to-man defense midway through the first half when Tech was starting to build a big lead.

“I thought the zone made them think a little more and be more patient,” Baylor coach Kim Mulkey said. “They were blowing by us.”

Jhasmin Player scored a career-high 22 points to lead Baylor. Player has gotten career highs in two of Baylor’s last three games. She scored 21 points in Baylor’s 70-71 win over Missouri a week ago.

“When you’re playing with a lot of confidence you feel like you can score every time you touch the ball, and Jhasmin takes it off the dribble as well as anyone I’ve coached,” Mulkey said.

Bernice Mosby added 15 points and 13 rebounds for Baylor (20-4, 7-3 Big 12), which has 20 wins for the seventh-straight season.

Patrice Edwards scored a career-high 33 points to lead Tech (14-10, 5-5) and Jordan Murphree added 11.

“It’s bittersweet,” Edwards said. “I’m glad I had a great game but I can’t celebrate too much.”

Tech coach Kristy Curry said not enough players fed off Edwards’ performance.

“She came through and that’s what we needed tonight,” she said. “We just didn’t follow her lead tonight.”

Tech scored easily early in the first half. They worked the ball inside to Edwards, who had 12 of the Lady Raiders’ first 16 points. She had 12 points to match her career-high with 9:45 remaining and had 18 at the break.

But the Lady Raiders struggled once Baylor switched to a zone. They went 3-of-16 after the change and made only one field goal in the final 7:45.

After trailing 19-10, the Lady Bears used runs of 10-2 and 12-2 to lead 38-30 at halftime.

No. 16 Texas A&M 69, Missouri 63

Columbia, Mo. – Takia Starks scored 21 points and the Aggies weathered a Missouri rally for its fifth straight win.

Starks scored 16 points in the first half to help Texas A&M (18-4, 8-2) build a lead that reached 24 points. Reserve Danielle Gant added 18 points and A’Quonesia Franklin had 16.

Tiffany Brooks led Missouri (14-9, 2-8) with 22 points. Leading scorer EeTisha Riddle (16.4 points per game) shot just 1-for-4 in the first half, but went 5-for-7 in the second half to finish with 16 points. Alyssa Hollins added 11 points.

No. 21 Nebraska 62, Kansas State 55

Manhattan – Kiera Hardy scored 13 points to lead the Cornhuskers to their fourth straight win and seventh in eight games.

Ashley Ford added 11 points and Chelsea Aubry had 12 rebounds for Nebraska (19-4, 8-2), which won the rebounding battle, 46-33. Kelsey Griffin, who entered the game fifth in the Big 12 Conference at 16.4 points per game, was held to seven points and 10 rebounds in action limited by foul trouble.

Shalee Lehning scored 15 points for Kansas State (15-8, 3-6), which has lost six of seven since starting forward Marlies Gipson went down with a knee injury. Kimberly Dietz added 14 and Claire Coggins 13.
