White picks Texas A&M

? Tyra White, a McDonald’s All-American out of Hickman Mills High School in Kansas City, Mo., has signed a national letter of intent with Texas A&M.

The 6-foot shooting guard had signed with LSU in November 2006, but was released from her scholarship when coach Pokey Chatman resigned before the NCAA Tournament in March.

White took unofficial visits to Kansas University and A&M before settling on the Aggies over KU, Texas Tech, Cal and Middle Tennessee.

“To be able at this late date to sign a Top-20 player in the country is just unbelievable,” A&M head coach Gary Blair told aggiesports.com. “Tyra is one of the top two or three shooting guards in the Class of 2007. She’s got tremendous range, is versatile and has a tremendous upside.”

Blair’s ability to turn the Big 12’s worst program into co-champs in four seasons was a selling point.

“I want to win,” White said. “After talking to coach Blair, I knew they had good people down there. They had what I want in a school.”

White averaged 18.5 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks per game at Hickman Mills.
