KU football’s Butler ruled ineligible

Kansas University defensive tackle Eric Butler has been ruled inelgibile and is no longer on the Jayhawk football team.

Butler’s appeal recently was denied after his initial petition for more eligibility also was denied, sources say.

Butler, who played just two years of college football, no longer is eligible because he originally enrolled in DeVry five years ago, thus starting his eligibility clock.

In just one season as a backup defensive tackle at KU, Butler registered 12 tackles and a pair of sacks, including a memorable safety against Nebraska that helped cement KU’s 40-15 victory.

A Kansas City, Mo., native, Butler also played one year at Avila University in Kansas City.

KU’s defensive tackle position is expected to be led by Wayne Wilder and James McClinton, with Caleb Blakesley, Todd Haselhorst and Chris Brant now backing up.
