Kansas University’s women’s basketball team fell 90-40 to defending national champion Baylor University, Saturday at the Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas.
Despite holding a couple of early first half leads, the Jayhawks (13-5 overall, 2-5 Big 12) trailed the Bears 46-23 at halftime as Baylor, which has won seven straight in the series, closed out the first half on a 17-2 run, holding Kansas to single basket over the final six minutes.
“I thought we played with them early, and I got a decent rotation,” Kansas coach Bonnie Henrickson said. “Then the bottom fell out and never closed again.”
KU senior Crystal Kemp led the Jayhawks with 10 points, while Kaylee Brown added seven points and senior Erica Hallman had a team-high six rebounds. Baylor had six players in double-figures, led by Sophia Young’s 17 points and nine boards.
BU shot a red-hot 50.8 percent (33-of-65), while Kansas shot 33.3 percent on 16-of-48 shooting. Baylor also claimed the battle of the boards with a 45-25 rebounding advantage.
Hallman, who finished with just four points, became the 19th 1,000-point scorer in KU history when she hit a jumper from the right wing with 19:07 on the clock in the first half.
The Jayhawks committed 23 turnovers leading to 37 Lady Bear points.
Kansas returns home on Wednesday, Feb. 1 for a rematch with Colorado at 7 p.m. in Allen Fieldhouse.
