Kansas University football coach Mark Mangino announced Friday afternoon that he has suspended sophomore fullback Bruce Ringwood from the Jayhawks indefinitely in the aftermath of an altercation last Sunday night at a country music concert in Kansas City, Mo.
“I have suspended Bruce until we gather all the facts related to this incident,” Mangino said. “I’m disturbed that one of our players would be involved in something like this. We have high standards of conduct that we expected from our student-athletes. This behavior goes against everything we stand for at the University of Kansas.”
The 20-year-old Ringwood – who was arrested at Kemper Arena on Sunday and charged with assault, after allegedly being involved in a scuffle with a husband and wife at a Kenny Chesney show – also issued a statement Friday.
“I would like to apologize to my teammates, coaches and my university for my involvement in this incident,” Ringwood said. “I regret that it happened, and my focus now is on doing everything I can do to be a good student and good football player.”
