Serena Settlemier pitched a six-inning perfect game, and Kansas University run-ruled hapless Missouri-Kansas City, 8-0, Tuesday afternoon at Arrocha Ballpark.
The Jayhawks (16-15) pounded 11 hits — three by leadoff hitter Heather Stanley — and snapped a six-game losing streak. UMKC’s record plunged to 4-28.
Settlemier hiked her record to 8-5, striking out seven Kangaroos and walking none while facing the minimum 18 batters.
The last time a KU pitcher recorded a perfect game was Feb. 20, 1994, when Stephani Williams struck out 12 in an 8-0, five-inning victory over Tulsa in Grand Prairie, Texas.
Freshman outfielder Jackie Vasquez had two hits and three RBIs. Sophomore first baseman Nicole Washburn had two hits, driving in a pair of runs. Stanley contributed two RBIs. Stanley, Washburn, Vasquez and Ashley Frazer each doubled.
The Jayhawks will resume Big 12 Conference play this weekend at Oklahoma State.
