Townsend named today?

By J-W Staff Reports     Jun 7, 2004

Today could be the day Kansas University men’s basketball coach Bill Self names an assistant coach to replace Norm Roberts on his staff.

As reported by the Journal-World several times the past two weeks, the choice is believed to be Kurtis Townsend, 46, who coached at the University of Miami last season.

Townsend also has assistant-coaching experience at USC, Michigan, Eastern Kentucky and California. Born in San Jose, Calif. He played point guard at Western Kentucky two seasons (1978-80) and played the 1981 season for Montana in the CBA.

Roberts, who was Self’s associate head coach last season, became head coach at St. John’s on April 12.
