Rep. Tom Sloan (R-Lawrence), chair of the House of Representatives Higher Education Committee, has donated trophies to recognize academic and athletic baseball achievements at NCAA Division One state universities and at Kansas community colleges.
Grade-point averages will count two-thirds and won-lost percentage one-third in the compilations. The university trophy will go to either Kansas, Kansas State or Wichita State.
“Placing twice the emphasis on academic achievement recognizes that most student-athletes’ ultimate success will be how they perform in careers outside the athletic field,” Sloan said.
