The Jayhawks earned their 27th straight victory over the Wildcats, 73-67 Wednesday at Allen Fieldhouse, but it wasn’t easy.
The teams battled back and forth in the first half, exchanging the lead 12 times before intermission. KU took a 29-27 lead with just more than two minutes left in the half on a pair of free throws by Keith Langford, and didn’t trail again.
KU extended its lead to as many as 13 points, 57-44, and led by as many as 11 points, 63-52, midway through the second half before K-State went on a short run.
The Wildcats closed to within four points, 67-63, but Kansas held off Kansas State over the final couple minutes.
The six-point victory was the closest game in KU’s winning streak since an eight-point win, 87-79, Jan. 12, 2000, in Lawrence.
Wayne Simien had 19 points and nine rebounds for KU, Keith Langford had 17 points and seven boards, and Michael Lee had 16 points in his first action since injuring his right shoulder.
Jeff Graves had 11 points and nine rebounds for KU, Aaron Miles had eight points and 11 assists, and Bryant Nash had two points and seven rebounds. Nash started for David Padgett, who sat out with a stress fracture in his left foot.

Frank Richards had 19 points for the Wildcats, Tim Ellis had 16 points and Jeremiah Massey and Marques Hayden each had 10 points. Jarrett Hart added six points, and Dramane Diarra had four points.
KU was 25-of-53 shooting, including 5-of-17 shooting from long range. The Jayhawks were 18-of-28 shooting from the charity stripe.
KSU was 26-of-66 shooting, including 5-of-13 shooting from three-point range. The Wildcats wer 10-of-17 shooting from the foul line.
