Lubbock, Texas ? Kansas third baseman Travis Metcalf broke an 8-8 tie in the top of the ninth inning with a solo home run over the left-center field wall to give the Jayhawks a 9-8 win against Texas Tech Friday night at Dan Law Field.
KU took an 8-2 lead with a seven-run seventh inning, which included a two-run home run by Ryan Baty.
Texas Tech tied the game in the bottom of the eighth with help from two Kansas errors.
Metcalf broke the deadlock with a homer of reliever Jeff Karstens (7-2). KU’s Brandon Johnson (6-2) picked up the win in relief.
Ritchie Price and Casey Spanish both had three hits for Kansas (27-14, 3-7 Big 12).
Texas Tech (22-14, 4-8) will play host to KU at 2 p.m. today.
