After turning around football programs at Murray State and Cincinnati, Mike Gottfried lasted just three seasons as the head Jayhawk. The man that replaced Don Fambrough could do no better than a 6-6 final season in 1985, posting a cumulative record of 15-18-1.
Following that break-even season, Gottfried took the top job at Pitt. Though Gottfried was well on his way to rebuilding the program, the lure of a new challenge kept him from remaining to see his work bear fruit.
