? Kansas University assistant basketball coach Neil Dougherty today will be named head coach at Texas Christian University.

Dougherty, 40, has served on Roy Williams’ KU staff the past seven years. He will replace Billy Tubbs, who resigned after this past season.

“I will see you in Texas tomorrow,” Dougherty told a Texas reporter after KU’s 104-86 rout of Oregon on Saturday in the Kohl Center, referring to a noon press conference to announce Dougherty as Horned Frogs’ coach.

Dougherty’s hiring at TCU has been imminent since Friday, when negotiations broke down between TCU and Wyoming coach Steve McClain.

Dougherty his hiring was confirmed by J-W sources will not begin working at TCU until KU’s season is finished.

“I am being very careful,” Kansas coach Roy Williams said. “I want to wait. It’s their announcement.

“If he leaves and takes the TCU job, I am ecstatic for him. At the same time, it’ll be a huge loss. Neil is with us. I know no matter what he’s sitting behind me.”
