By J-W Staff Report     Jan 19, 2002

Kansas University football coach Mark Mangino apparently has completed his coaching staff by hiring two assistants last week.

George Matsakis, a former Kansas State player who has served as director of football operations the past two years at Houston, will fill that role at KU.

And Tyrone Dixon, receivers coach at Cincinnati last season, is expected to be announced as the Jayhawks’ receivers coach.

Matsakis played at K-State from 1988-92 and served as a graduate assistant and assistant for video operations at his alma mater from 1993-96. Prior to heading to UH, Matsakis was director of football operations at Wyoming.

Dixon also worked with the San Diego Chargers.

Neither of the hirings has been announced formally.

Mangino already has announced the hiring of: Bill Young, defensive coordinator; Nick Quartaro, offensive coordinator; Dave Doeren, linebackers; Travis Jones, defensive line; Dave Borberly, offensive line; Pat Henderson, secondary; and Brandon Blaney and Clint Bowen, for whom no positions yet have been announced.
