Associate athletics director and senior women’s administrator Amy Perko is leaving Kansas University to take a job in her home state.

The North Carolina native and former Wake Forest basketball standout has been named president for Fayetteville’s National Basketball Development League team.

Fayetteville was granted the NBDL’s first team in January. Hall of Famer Nate “Tiny” Archibald has been named coach. Perko will be responsible for overseeing business affairs, human resources, community relations, ticket sales, marketing, promotions and communications.

The NBDL will play a 56-game schedule beginning in November in eight southeastern U.S. cities.

Perko served five years at KU, overseeing operations for women’s basketball, soccer, rowing, baseball, volleyball and tennis. She also was the administrative supervisor for sports medicine, the business office and human resources. She played a major role in the renovation of Hoglund Ballpark. Prior to her work at KU, Perko spent 61/2 years with the NCAA.
