Tampa, Fla. Kansas University lost two one-run games Thursday to open the four-day Speedline Invitational.
No. 23 Wisconsin eked out a 1-0 victory over the Jayhawks in the first game. Florida Atlantic nipped KU, 6-5, in the second contest.
In the first game, Wisconsin pitcher Andrea Kirchberg tossed a four-hitter and struck out 10 Jayhawks. Junior second baseman Amy Hulse had two of KU’s hits. Leah Tabb and Megan Urquhart each had a hit apiece.
In the second game, Florida Atlantic freshman Kara Pierce allowed four hits. Florida Atlantic scored an unearned run in the sixth for the win.
KU, now 8-10, dipped below .500 for the first time this season. The Jayhawks have lost five one-run games.
