It was beyond standing room only at Phog Allen Fieldhouse for the Jayhawks’ Big 12 home opener, and the home team did not disappoint. The game got off to yet another typically slow start-Nebraska did not score until the 16:36 mark, and that made it 4-3. Kansas did not take long, however, to pile on the points and leave the Cornhuskers far behind.
KU built a 38-20 halftime lead, helped along greatly by numerous travelling calls on Nebraska. Drew Gooden and Kenny Gregory provided much of the offensive sparks with several slams between the two of them.
Kansas kept up the pressure in the second half, keeping the lead in the low twenties. Kenny Gregory ended up with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Drew Gooden added 17 points, and Nick Collison chipped in 16. As a team, the Jayhawks had 23 assists.
