Scott Russell, a senior thrower on the Kansas University track and field team, was named the Big 12 male track athlete by the conference Monday afternoon.
Russell, from Windsor, Ontario, qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championship this past weekend in the weight throw competition, with a toss of 72-21/4.
This was the second time this season Russell has won the weight throw event.
