Kansas University’s football team has received a verbal commitment from John Beck, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound kicker from Kansas City Piper.

Beck, who hit 10 of 12 field goals from outside 50 yards in his career, chose KU over Missouri, Colorado and Colorado State.

“I am 100 percent going to KU,” Beck told recruiting analyst Jon Kirby of Mo-Kan Football. “The same day I committed to KU, Missouri called my athletic director and told them they wanted me to visit. I told myself by the 15th I wanted to know where I was going and now I know. I really like Lawrence and all the coaches on staff. It’s the best feeling ever.”

Meanwhile, Joey Guzman, a 6-5, 270-pound defensive tackle from Tulsa (Okla.) Union, was one of several athletes to visit KU over the weekend.

He told Kirby he was extremely impressed and gave a soft commitment to KU. He has an official visit set up with Missouri next weekend.
