Kansas University men’s basketball assistant coach Neil Dougherty confirmed Sunday he is interested in the head coaching position at Xavier.

Dougherty would not say whether he’s been contacted by Xavier officials, who are seeking a replacement for Skip Prosser, new coach at Wake Forest.

It’s believed Dougherty is on Xavier’s list of candidates.

UNC Greensboro head coach Fran McCaffrey was to talk with Xavier AD Mike Bobinski over the weekend.

Butler coach Thad Matta may be a candidate, along with Florida assistant John Pelphrey. Dana Altman of Creighton has said he’s not interested.
