Kilmeny Waterman, a former Kansas University assistant women’s tennis coach, has been named the Jayhawks’ head coach.
Waterman, who was a KU aide from 1993 to 1995, was head coach at Wyoming for four seasons before moving back to the Kansas City area to be an instructor at the Plaza Tennis Center.
A native of Kansas City, Mo., Waterman teamed with her mother on the professional tennis circuit, ranking as high as No. 2 nationally on the Mother-Daughter Doubles Circuit. She also attained WTA world rankings in singles and doubles in 1988-91.
“Kilmeny brings knowledge and experience of past successes in KU tennis having served as an assistant coach during one of the program’s most successful years,” Amy Perko, KU associate athletics director, said on Friday.
Waterman replaces Jenny Garrity who resigned last spring to accept the head coaching position at UNC-Wilmington.
