Travon Bryant, a 6-foot-9 senior forward from Long Beach, Calif., said Sunday night it appears Kansas University has lost all interest in him as a basketball recruit.
Bryant said in a phone interview he had not officially eliminated KU as a possibility but noted, “They’ve not called in a month or a month and a half.”
Bryant attended a prep tournament at Cal-State Dominguez over the weekend and said he saw KU coach Roy Williams sitting in the coaches’ section.
The two did not speak.
“I’m not worried about that,” Bryant said, indicating his finalists remain Missouri, Cal-Berkeley and KU. “All the NCAA stuff … maybe it’s not allowed. I don’t know.”
KU’s coaches, however, are allowed to make an in-home visit with Bryant if they wish, but have not attempted to set up a visit, Bryant said.
Bryant said he would reveal his college choice after he receives his test scores. He took the SAT on Saturday.
Earlier Sunday, he told Al Siebert of Heartland Hoops “Kansas is out,” because KU had stopped recruiting him.
“It looks like it’s between Cal and Missouri,” Bryant told Siebert. “I felt very good about my test this weekend. I think I will have a decision in two weeks.”
The late signing period starts Wednesday. KU has one signee from the early period in DeShawn Stevenson, 6-6 of Fresno, Calif. Stevenson will compete in the Sonny Vaccaro Roundball Classic at 7 p.m. tonight in Raleigh, N.C. The game will be shown on channel 49.
