? Nebraska scored 23 runs and smacked 23 hits in a Big 12 baseball sweep of Kansas on Saturday, winning the opener 9-3 and the second 14-2.

NU’s Shane Komine struck out 17 Jayhawks — a record by a KU opposing pitcher.

“Today was a rugged day,” said KU coach Bobby Randall, whose Jayhawks dipped to 19-17 overall and 6-11 in the Big 12. “We got out-pitched today. We gave up way too many walks and hit batters and we couldn’t hold the score.”

KU senior Rusty Philbrick (2-4) suffered the loss in the opener. The Jayhawks managed just five hits in that game, including a home run by Doug Dreher. Shane Wedd had two singles.

In the second game, Brandon O’Neal (1-2) was the losing pitcher in a game called in the seventh due to the 12-run rule. The Jayhawks collected five hits, including doubles by Ryan Klocksien and Jesse Gremminger.

NU designated hitter Matt Hopper hit two home runs and drove in four runs.

KU and NU will conclude the series at 1 p.m. today.
