Piper hurts knee, will sit out

Kansas basketball forward Chris Piper will miss at least two weeks of practice after undergoing a form of arthroscopic surgery on Sunday.

Piper, a 6-8 senior who suffered a twisted knee last Tuesday, had an hour-long diagnostic arthroscopy performed by Dr. Ken Wertzberger at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Piper was released following the procedure.

No cartilage or ligament damage was discovered, merely irratation which is expected to clear up in about two weeks. Piper will not play int he upcoming season-opening tournament in Hawaii, KU officials said, but will make the trip.

His progress will be monitored day-to-day. It is not known when he’ll return to practice.

The former Lawrence High player started all 36 games last year. He averaged 6.6 points and 4.7 rebounds.
