Tait tabs true freshman for top spot

By Matt Tait     Dec 10, 2009

Note: The Journal-World’s Matt Tait filled in for Tom Keegan for the KU-Radford edition of the Keegan Ratings.

1. Elijah Johnson: Justified earning his first start with 11 points and three rebounds on 4-of-6 shooting, including 2-of-2 shooting from downtown. The numbers only tell half the story for Johnson, who impacted the game the entire 15 minutes he was on the floor.

2. Sherron Collins: Efficient shooting and timely passing led to 15 points and 8 assists in 32 minutes for the veteran floor general.

3. Cole Aldrich: Used quickness to score on offense and controlled the paint and limited Radford big man Art Parakhouski to minimal production for the first three quarters of the game.

4. Thomas Robinson: Strength and quickness way too much for Radford to handle. Ten points and 7 rebounds in just 16 minutes. The best part? He scored in the paint, off the dribble and with a mid-range jumper.

5. Tyshawn Taylor: Responded well to coming off the bench. Played with more focus and less flash to the tune of 6 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds and no turnovers in 17 minutes.

6. Xavier Henry: Nothing special but nothing sloppy either. Thirteen points, 3 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals during one of his best defensive nights.

7. C.J. Henry: Came in late and filled it up again. Hit four of five shots — 3-of-4 from three-point land — and finished with 11 points in 10 minutes.

8. Marcus Morris: Came to life in second half to save an otherwise forgettable night. Nonexistent in first half because of foul trouble.

9. Markieff Morris: Misfired on three of his four shots and wasn’t much of a factor inside.

10. Tyrel Reed: Made one of four three-pointers and played decent D. Just not his night shooting-wise.

The Keegan Ratings: Season Standings
1. Sherron Collins (67 points)
2. Cole Aldrich (60 points)
3. Xavier Henry (59 points)
4. Marcus Morris (49 points)
5. Markieff Morris (47 points)
6. Tyshawn Taylor (39 points)
7. Elijah Johnson (37 points)
T8. Tyrel Reed (35 points)
T8. Thomas Robinson (35 points)
10. C.J. Henry (8 points)
* — Note: C.J. Henry, though he is a walk-on, will be included in the Keegan Ratings.
