The Kansas football team’s secondary needs all the help it can get and one of the best ways to help it is to put a steady stream of pressure on the quarterback.
And Dorance Armstrong is playing for the Dallas Cowboys now.
So who will make the opposing offensive line pay extra attention to him the way Armstrong did?
Maybe Azur Kamara.
Wishful thinking putting him on this list? Probably, but it’s necessary to have a little of that sort of thinking just to keep your sanity covering this football program, which hasn’t won more than three games in a season since 2009.
Besides, it’s not as if projecting a valuable contribution from Kamara isn’t based on anything whatsoever. He did produce for an Arizona Western team that made it all the way to the NJCAA national title game.
At 6-foot-4, 225 pounds, is he heavy enough? We’ll see. He’s definitely long enough.
“Azur is a guy who sticks out to me,” fourth-year Kansas coach David Beaty said. “He was a 20-plus sack guy last year at Arizona Western.”
Close. Kamara had 12.5 sacks, so he knows how to go after the quarterback.
“He really looks a lot body-wise like Dorance. He’s not quite as thick as him yet, but long arms. I like him. He’s got a motor. Really good.”
The quicker Kamara can figure out how to win battles against Big 12 tackles, the better shot the secondary has at hanging with Big 12 receivers and creating turnovers.
