There’s those little things that make college football better than the professional brand. There’s the fact that once the season hits full stride, you can find a game on one of the 43 ESPN networks every night of the week. There’s the strange artifacts that have become widely-recognized symbols, such as the [Little Brown Jug][1] and [Paul Bunyan’s Axe][2].The list goes on and on. My favorite though, falls right in line with something KU fans have been clamoring for since KU changed its uniforms for the third time in the Mark Mangino era – helmet stickers. For the people who want to see the Jayhawk on the helmet, this would be the coolest way to have it done, I think. After all, KU paid [way too much money][3] for its Trajan logo not to put it to prominent use on the side of the helmet.Personally, this is my favorite college football tradition around. An in my opinion, every school should do it. Then again, it’s the fact that fewer and fewer do it as the years go by which probably makes it even cooler. Many of the big programs either do it now or at one point did it. From [Florida State’s tomahawks][4], to [Georgia’s dog bones to][5] – winner of the coolest helmet stickers of all time – [Ohio State’s buckeye’s][6].I think Jayhawk helmets peppered with miniature Jayhawk logos starting in the back and working their way to the front as accomplishments pile up would be pretty decent looking. The fans have spoken…somewhat. In our [KUSports.com poll this week][7], which launched Sunday night, it asked which you would rather see on the side of the KU helmet between the [Trajan KU][8], the [block-lettered KU][9] or the [Jayhawk][10].At the time this blog was posted, with 1,052 votes cast, 675 votes (a.k.a. 64 percent) voted for the Jayhawk. Majority rules, my friend. But it’ll probably be a moot point. According to our resident KU history guru [Bill Mayer][11], KU has never done this before.A.K.A. Don’t hold your breath.Talk to you tomorrow for Twisted Pick ’em v. 1.2, where I’ll also bring you some fun YouTube stuff like old times (I know, it’s been awhile).**_KUSports.com editor Ryan Greene can be reached at rgreene@ljworld.com, or by phone at (785) 832-6357._** [1]: http://www.pub.umich.edu/daily/1998/nov/11-02-98/photos/wtzfbcswordjug103198.gif [2]: http://graphics.jsonline.com/graphics/badger/img/nov04/ax1106.jpg [3]: http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2004/sep/25/oregon_company_will/ [4]: http://www.coldhardfootballfacts.com/Images/helmets_raised.JPG [5]: http://www.athensartgroup.net/mm5/graphics/00000001/art/one_lg.jpg [6]: http://www.coldhardfootballfacts.com/Images/Buckeye_Leaves2.jpg [7]: http://www2.kusports.com/polls/2007/sep/what_would_you_see_side_kus_helmet2/ [8]: http://www.oread.ku.edu/Oread05/Jul18/Jul18images/logo.jpg [9]: http://spln.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/p1563175reg.jpg [10]: http://www.delts.org/images/jayhawk.gif [11]: http://www2.kusports.com/staff/bill_mayer/
