Former Kansas and Lawrence High guard Zeke Mayo has signed a contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, his agency ADS Sports Management announced on Instagram on Friday evening.
“Just the beginning for Zeke, who will surely keep turning heads and prove the doubters wrong,” the agency wrote in its post, which Mayo also shared on his own Instagram story.
Terms of his contract with Cleveland were not disclosed. Mayo had previously inked a deal to play for Ironi Kiryat Ata in the Israeli Basketball Premier League in July, but he is not currently listed on the team’s roster and did not appear in the team’s first regular-season game on Oct. 12.
Mayo was present at Friday’s Late Night in the Phog, where KU coach Bill Self announced his signing to the crowd, and as the cherry on the top, Mayo made a shot to win KU sophomore Savannah Perea $7,500.
He played one season for KU in which he averaged 14.6 points per game while shooting 42.2% from beyond the arc, after playing three years at South Dakota State with a Summit League player of the year honor in 2024. He is a Lawrence native who twice earned the title of Journal-World All-Area player of the year during his tenure at LHS.
After graduating from KU, he went undrafted and then spent a brief stint with the Washington Wizards in the NBA Summer League, before making a quick trip back home to participate in three games for the KU alumni team JHX Hoops during The Basketball Tournament, recording 12.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest.
Mayo joins former teammate Hunter Dickinson, who is on a two-way contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, among the NBA rookie class. Point guard Dajuan Harris Jr. was playing for Kortrijk Spurs in Belgium but reportedly parted ways with the team in late September.
