The Kansas football team continued to add to its 2027 recruiting class on Sunday afternoon when it earned the commitment of JaMarquis Hudson.
Hudson is a 6-foot-2, 200-pound linebacker who attends Memorial High School in Port Arthur, Texas. He announced his decision in a post on Instagram in collaboration with 247Sports and now becomes the second linebacker in KU’s class after Elliott Neff of Middleville, Michigan, who joined the Jayhawks as part of a barrage of commitments a week ago.
Hudson visited Lawrence over the weekend and picked the Jayhawks over offers from a host of power-conference schools, including in recent months from Iowa State and Purdue. His final five, released on Sunday shortly before his final decision, included the Jayhawks and Boilermakers along with Houston, Kentucky and Texas Tech.
“I love Lawrence,” Hudson told Jon Kirby of JayhawkSlant.com. “Everyone makes you feel welcomed. It’s a home away from home. The staff and community go out of their way to make you feel at home.”
According to multiple reports, Hudson accrued 105 tackles, including 12 sacks, with four interceptions last season. He took part in this year’s edition of the Navy All-American Bowl, an all-star game held in San Antonio.
KU is expected to lose four redshirt seniors at linebacker following the season in transfer additions Jibreel Al-Amin, Bam Crouch and Jaron Willias and returning standout Trey Lathan. (It had a fifth before Landyn Watson was ruled ineligible due to a denied waiver.)
Hudson is the third recruit from Texas in KU’s class after safety Braiden Graves and wide receiver Maliek Brown. Fellow Texan linebacker Joseph Credit served as Hudson’s host on his visit, Hudson told Kirby.
“He’s a cool guy,” Hudson said. “He gave me knowledge and was also a friend too. I had some great times with a lot of the players.”
