The Kansas football team earned its third commitment at wide receiver in the span of just over a day when Jay Williams announced in a post on social media on Monday afternoon that he will join the Jayhawks.
Williams is a 6-foot-5, 190-pound wideout from Millikan High School in Long Beach, California. In 10 games as a junior for the Rams, he caught 29 passes for 615 yards and six touchdowns, according to MaxPreps.
He had additional offers from Oregon State and Syracuse, among others, and visited KU over the weekend.
“What stood out to me on the visit was how I felt wanted,” Williams told Jon Kirby of JayhawkSlant.com. “It was my birthday weekend as well, and they made me feel like family before even committing. Also, the top-of-the-line facilities had a lot to do with it as well.”
He now follows Deng Tong (Kansas City, Missouri), Maliek Brown (Tyler, Texas) and Tavares Powell (Bradenton, Florida) in joining the suddenly ballooning group of wide receivers that KU will bring in for 2027. At this point they exceed in number the senior trio of Nahzae Cox, Nik McMillan and Cam Pickett.
“They opened an extra spot at the wide receiver position just so I could have an opportunity to become a Jayhawk,” Williams told Kirby.
