The Kansas football team huddles up before practice at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium on Thursday, March 30, 2023.

With the opponents and general contours of the schedule already in place, a few more details about the 2023 Kansas football season are beginning to trickle out.

The Jayhawks’ Aug. 31 home opener against Missouri State, which falls on a Thursday night, will take place at 7 p.m. Central Time and be broadcast on ESPN+ under the Big 12 Now banner. More than two weeks later, their first road game of the year at Nevada on Sept. 16 will kick off at 9:30 p.m. CT in Reno. That game, the first meeting between the two schools, will be televised on CBS Sports Network.

KU’s second matchup of the year, a home nonconference game against Big Ten foe Illinois, is still in flux – Kansas Athletics’ official schedule and press release say the game is set for Sept. 9, a Saturday, while the Big 12 Conference’s own slate still lists it as uncertain whether it will take place then or a day earlier. Regardless, KU’s news release states that more information on that game “should be available in the coming weeks.”

The Big 12 will announce the rest of its TV selections either 12 or six days in advance of the games taking place.
