A day after KU lost Ernest Udeh, Jr. to the transfer portal, the Jayhawks were hoping to fill a vacant spot on the roster with one of the top-ranked high school recruits in the country.
Instead, Mackenzie Mgbako, a top-ten ranked prospect in the class of 2023, announced via social media on Friday afternoon that he is headed to Indiana University.
Mgbako previously had committed to Duke, but requested a release from his letter of intent with the Blue Devils after Duke’s roster changed. Indiana and KU were his final two teams under consideration.
The Hoosiers will be getting a 6-foot-8 forward from New Jersey who is rated as an excellent shooting prospect. He averaged 16.3 points and 9.2 rebounds per game for his high school team in route to a state championship last season.
