The Kansas Jayhawks went nearly 13 minutes without a field goal in the second half. Kansas couldn’t hit a bunny at all, going 9-for-30 on layups on the night. Oklahoma led by as many as 10 with 5:19 left to play.
And literally none of it mattered.
No. 2 Kansas, which has already had its fair share of battles to start Big 12 play, secured a gutsy and honestly improbable 79-75 win over Oklahoma on Tuesday night inside Allen Fieldhouse. KU (15-1, 4-0 Big 12) has now won nine in a row, and is able to keep pace with Iowa State and Kansas State (its next two opponents) in the league standings.
The Jayhawks extended their 22-game win streak over the Sooners inside Allen Fieldhouse, which dates back to 1994. Things looked bleak for the hosts with 5:19 left to play, after Tanner Groves gave Oklahoma a 71-61 advantage.
That’s when Kansas did, well, Kansas things by making key plays down the stretch to ultimately prevail. After Groves’ basket, K.J. Adams Jr. answered with a much-needed slam. It marked KU’s first basket since the 17:58 mark in the second half.

Another dunk from Adams gave Kansas a 73-72 advantage at the 1:09 mark, and that’s all this team really needed. Adams finished with a career-high 22 points in the win, while Jalen Wilson (17), Dajuan Harris (11) and Zach Clemence (10) all joined him in double figures.
KU will host Iowa State at 3 p.m. Saturday.
