Each week during the University of Kansas’ sports seasons, the Journal-World staff will select one athlete from a KU men’s sports team and one from a women’s sports team as athletes of the week.
For the week of Nov. 10-16, the selections are Flory Bidunga and Ivy Solt.
Flory Bidunga, men’s basketball
After a 12-point, eight-rebound performance hampered by foul trouble against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, the Congolese sophomore exploded for a 25-point, 10-rebound double-double to help lift KU over Princeton on Saturday. He reset his career high in points with a dominant showing that also included three blocks and a steal.
Ivy Solt, swimming and diving
KU earned all three of the Big 12’s weekly awards for the first time in four years, and Solt joined veterans Shiyun Lai and Lydia Lafferty among those receiving recognition. Solt was the freshman of the week. The first-year swimmer from Shakopee, Minnesota, was the runner-up in a pair of events when KU competed at Nebraska, as she completed the 1650-yard freestyle in 16 minutes, 54.52 seconds and the 500-yard freestyle in 4:53.02.
