Each week during the University of Kansas’ sports seasons, the Journal-World staff will select one athlete from a KU men’s sports team and one from a women’s sports team as athletes of the week.

For the week of Oct. 27 to Nov. 2, the selections are Will King and Emmah Jemutai

Will King, men’s golf

King etched his name in the record books by shooting a 14-under 199 across three rounds at the Ka’anapali Classic in Hawaii, which concluded on Wednesday. An Olathe native who is the most experienced member of the team this season, King finished in a tie for fifth place as KU was seventh as a team at the event.

Emmah Jemutai, cross-country

Jemutai was the highest overall finisher for KU on either the women’s or men’s side as she came in 24th at the Big 12 Championships, which took place at Rim Rock Farm on Friday. The redshirt sophomore from Kenya recorded her new best time in the 6K race at 20 minutes, 14.3 seconds.
