Kansas men’s basketball coach Bill Self went to Lawrence Memorial Hospital on Monday and did not travel with the Jayhawks to their upcoming road game in Colorado, KU Athletics announced in a statement on Monday night.

The statement said Self “felt under the weather earlier today and, out of an abundance of caution, was taken to LMH Health where he received IV fluids” and is now “feeling better.”

Self was previously hospitalized on March 8, 2023, when he experienced chest tightness and balance issues, and had to miss the Jayhawks’ postseason run that season as a result. More recently, on July 24, he had two stents inserted at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in response to “concerning symptoms.”

Self was released from that most recent hospitalization after two days. He said in August that he did not consider stepping away from his job due to health reasons and that doctors had advised him to make improvements in his diet and exercise.

He has also said in the past that he also underwent an aortic valve replacement in the fall of 2022, and coached with a peripherally inserted central catheter, or PICC line, during a recent season.

Self is in his 23rd year as the coach at Kansas and 33rd as a head coach overall. The announcement did not say who will serve as acting coach in his stead when KU faces Colorado at the CU Events Center on Tuesday night.
