Kansas wide receiver Tanaka Scott has entered the transfer portal, On3 was first to report Monday afternoon.
247Sports and Rivals also reported the news, which Scott himself has not yet announced.
A redshirt sophomore, Scott had three catches for 31 yards during the 2023 season as the backup to Lawrence Arnold at the “X” receiver spot. According to Pro Football Focus, he played 33 total snaps in the passing game and was targeted six times with three drops.
The previous year, Scott missed one game due to suspension. He had been charged with aggravated assault with a handgun shortly prior to the season, but the case was dismissed. Scott returned, had one catch in each of his first five appearances, and finished 2022 with eight catches for 102 yards, including a 52-yard reception against TCU.
The 6-foot-4 wideout had been frequently cited as a breakout candidate by teammates, including Kwamie Lassiter II during Scott’s redshirt year in 2021, and Kenny Logan Jr. at Big 12 Conference media days this past summer.
“Just seeing his transformation and where he’s been as a player is great to see,” Logan said in July.
Now, Scott can look to produce at another school. He was a three-star recruit coming out of Murphy High in Mobile, Alabama, and committed to Les Miles’ staff in October 2020.
Freshman Keaton Kubecka could slide into the backup “X” spot after getting listed behind Scott on the depth chart at times during the 2023 season. Alternatively, KU could look to pursue an addition in the transfer portal, though it is expected to remain quite deep at receiver in 2024 with Arnold, Quentin Skinner, Luke Grimm, Doug Emilien, Wilson, Kubecka, Surahz Buncom, Jarred Sample and more expected to return.
Will Huggins, a tight end, and Reece Thomas, a walk-on wide receiver, are the other KU players who have previously entered the portal.
